McDonald’s First “Zero Carbon Restaurant” with Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation System

On September 20, McDonald’s China announced the official opening of McDonald’s Shougang Garden Deli Speed Restaurant in Beijing, which will be the first LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Building) certified “Zero Carbon Restaurant”. The restaurant will be designed and constructed with reference to LEED zero carbon emission standards and zero energy consumption standards, and is expected to be certified in 12 months, making it the first restaurant in the Asia-Pacific region to receive both certifications.
According to the person in charge of McDonald’s China, the “zero carbon model” of the Shougang Garden restaurant has an onsite solar photovoltaic power generation system of more than 2,000 square meters, with an annual power generation capacity of about 330,000 kilowatt hours, which can meet the daily electricity demand of the restaurant’s operation and reduce carbon emissions by about 200 tons per year.
